Touchdown! Green Mountain Helps Super Bowl XLVI and Pro Bowl 2012 Score Big for the Environment

More than the turf will be green at Super Bowl XLVI — we are thrilled to announce that the NFL has selected Green Mountain EnergyTM Solutions to help make this year’s game the greenest yet! Leveraging our significant renewable energy experience, the Solutions team presented the NFL with the winning bid to become the provider of green power for Super Bowl XLVI and Pro Bowl 2012.
Green Mountain will provide renewable energy certificates (RECs) to offset greenhouse gas emissions associated with the electricity used at the major NFL venues. These include Lucas Oil Stadium, site of Super Bowl XLVI, the Indiana Convention Center, site of the NFL Experience Football Theme Park, and all four of the major NFL hotels including the NFL Headquarters.
But green power for Super Bowl XLVI is just the start…..the Solutions team wanted to help the NFL maximize this opportunity, as well as the impact on the environment, so Green Mountain is also:
- Providing carbon offsets to balance out the greenhouse gas emissions created by the AFC and NFC teams’ air and ground travel.
- Donating a solar array through Rebuilding Together’s efforts for the Near East Side Legacy Project.
- Supporting tree plantings in the game’s host city through Keep Indianapolis Beautiful.
In addition to Green Mountain’s environmental support for Super Bowl, we are also providing green power (through RECs) for the electricity used at Aloha Stadium for the 2012 NFL Pro Bowl, as well as helping to fund a tree planting project at the Waianae Boys and Girls Club in Hawaii.
